The World Congress of Architects and General Assembly, organized every three years by the International Union of Architects (UIA), was held this year in Barcelona, Spain.
Representing the UCTCEA Chamber of Architects, President Onur Olguner and Executive Board Members İpek Yaralıoğlu and Doğa Üzümcüoğlu participated in the events. The congress brought together architects from around the world, providing an important platform to discuss the contemporary challenges facing the architectural profession, professional practice, and the common issues confronting architecture on a global scale.
As part of the Congress, the UCTCEA Chamber of Architects participated in the exhibition jointly organized by the Chamber of Architects of Türkiye and the UIA Region II member countries. The Chamber also contributed to the professional dialogue by taking part in the session entitled "Housing for All," which focused on the right to housing, the responsibilities of architecture in the face of disasters and multiple interconnected crises, and the transition from local housing insecurity toward resilient living environments.
Following the conclusion of the World Congress of Architects, the UIA 30th General Assembly commenced. Participating alongside the Turkish Delegation, Onur Olguner, President of the UCTCEA Chamber of Architects, engaged in a series of meetings over three days aimed at strengthening the Chamber's international relations. During the Assembly, he held discussions with representatives from various countries, professional organizations, and national delegations.
During his high-level meetings with, among others, the President of the UIA and the President of the Architects' Council of Europe (ACE), President Olguner emphasized his deep concern that Turkish Cypriot architects remain excluded from the global architectural dialogue. He underlined that the Chamber's 1,741 architect members are fully prepared to contribute to the international architectural community in whatever capacity may be possible. He noted that these discussions were constructive and encouraging, providing hope for future cooperation and greater inclusion.
As a result of the elections held during the General Assembly, Ayşe Ciravoğlu of the Chamber of Architects of Türkiye was re-elected as a UIA Region II Council Member. President Olguner welcomed this outcome with great satisfaction, congratulated Ms. Ciravoğlu, and conveyed his best wishes for a successful new term in office.
President Olguner concluded by emphasizing that the UCTCEA Chamber of Architects will continue to intensify its efforts to strengthen its international relations. He reaffirmed the Chamber's determination to pursue its legitimate efforts to ensure that Turkish Cypriot architects receive the recognition and representation they rightfully deserve on international platforms.
